A digital certificate is an electronic "credit card" that establishes your credentials when doing business or other transactions on the Web. It is issued by a Certification Authority (CA). It contains your name, a serial number, expiration dates, a copy of the certificate holder's public key (used for encrypting and decrypting messages and digital signatures), and the digital signature of the certificate-issuing authority so that a recipient can verify that the certificate is genuine.

In other words, a digital certificate provides authentication of the identity of the web server and the content provided by your company which allow shoppers to trust the merchant with sensitive information like credit card numbers. Shoppers can enter their details and order using the form supplied by your shop, and this message will be encrypted from the browser to the server.

N.B. this package needs to be used in conjunction with a First Sight package as it doesn't include domain name, email forwarding etc. This package does not include any E-commerce software!

This package would be suitable if you have designed your own shopping cart scripts, or have already bought software, which needs to run on SSL.

You can choose a subdomain of your domain name for the secure part of the website. This has to be something other than www - for example https://shop.yourbusiness.co.uk.

Most people use either shop. or secure., although you can have whatever they like. Charities often choose donations., others subscribe., depending on the nature of the site.. This package includes
